Who Are We?

Discussing choral and music arrangementsThe Woottons, a collective name for North and South Wootton, are two villages nestled just North of King's Lynn, Norfolk, with a rich and varied heritage.  We are close to the ancient village of Castle Rising, once a fishing port, and also near to Her Majesty's country retreat of Sandringham House.  The Woottons themselves are close to the marshes, which lead onto the Wash, but over the year, the sea has receded, but you can still catch a glimpse of the sea from the towers of the churches on a fine day. All Saints, North Wootton and St Mary's South Wootton are part of the Church of England Diocese of Norwich.

All Saint's Church Wardens - North Wootton

Tony Kendall

Tony Kendall - All Saint's Church WardenBorn in 1930, I joined the Royal Engineers in 1949 and enjoyed an adventurous military career before retiring in 1985. I am married to Elizabeth and we have three children in their forties. On leaving the Army I helped the Leonard Cheshire Foundation to convert a Victorian manor on the Royal Estate at Sandringham into a hotel for disabled people, subsequently became General Manager and stayed for 10 years.

I was licensed as a Reader in 2000 after 3 years training and have been churchwarden for 6 years. I coordinate the parish fundraising team and enjoy organising events. I am chairman of a national charity supporting a large medical enterprise in Bangladesh and local secretary for the Campaign to Protect Rural England. I find lay ministry in the parish very fulfilling, while reading, golf and hill walking are favourite recreations. Tel: 01553 631539

Michael Calver, Church Warden, All Saints Church - North WoottonMike Calver

Born in South Wootton in 1941, I lived there with my grandparents for 22 years until I married Sylvia in 1965. I was brought up Methodist and came to the Anglican church when I was confirmed in 1984. For five years I was chairman/driver of the voluntary community bus service for the Docking area until we moved to Roydon in 1985. I am retired from my work as an electrician, having spent the last 25 years in the NHS. In 1992 I was elected as a trustee for the Trinity Hospital Castle Rising, representing Roydon parish, which, in turn, brought me to the Church in the Woottons, and particularly All Saints Church. Sylvia and I are both sacristans and I was recently authorised as chalice assistant. My main interests are gardening, DIY, military history and reading.

I became a churchwarden in 2001, having previously been PCC Secretary for eight years, and am a member of the Choir and Mothers Union. My interests outside the church include classical music, Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, gardening, needlework and visiting cathedrals at home and abroad. Tel: 01553 672421.

I was born in 1943 to a clerical family, am married and have one grandchild. Educated at Norwich School and King’s College London, reading Theology, I am financial controller for a local firm of surveyors and estate agents after over 20 years service with Barclays Bank. I have served the church in many roles from Cathedral Chorister to Deanery Treasurer, and am currently a member of the Choir. My wife Rachel is a Methodist, and I seek greater cooperation and closer links between all parts of the Christian Church. I incline to traditional worship and my interests include classical music, jazz and railways. Tel: 01553 631820

What We Do

Out and about in the community: Groups and Events

The clergy maintain close liaison with the main schools by attending Assembly once a week. We organise an Easter Workshop for children in the village hall as well as fashion shows held in the school. Younger children are catered for by a Mother's and Toddler's Group in each village.

Scouting and Guiding: The local Scout Groups supports the church in practical ways. Scouts, Guides and Brownies attend family services on the second Sunday in the month in term time.
