Baptisms & Christenings

Baptism or Christening is the initiation rite of the Christian church, resulting in the admission of the recipient into the community of Christians.

 

Weddings

Marriage before God is the holy act of union between a man and a woman, affirming their love and commitment in a legal and spiritually binding way.

Funerals

We are here to support you during your period of loss and grief. You do not have to be alone at this time. Find out how we can help you. 

Confirmation

A rite administered to baptised persons as a sacrament for confirming and strengthening the recipient in the Christian faith.

Communion

Central act of worship, which was initiated at the Last Supper in which bread and wine are  consumed in remembrance of Jesus

Searching the Church Registers


Most of our older books and documents have been deposited for safe keeping at The Norfolk Record Office, The Archive Centre, Martineau Lane, Norwich, NR1 2DQ (Tel: 01603 222599).

Copies of Entries

We can search our church registers for you on request. The fees are as follows:

Marriage Registers before 1837: Up to one hour: £18.00
Subsequent hours (or part hours): £15.00
               Copy of one marriage certificate: £7.00
Baptism/Burial Registers: Up to one hour £18.00
Subsequent hours £15.00
Copy of one entry: £NIL
Subsequent copies of each entry: £18.00

FEES ARE PAYABLE in advance by cheque or postal order and should be made payable to 'St Mary's, South Wootton Parochial Church Council' or 'All Saints, North Wootton Parochial Church Council'.

If a search is unsuccessful because of inadequate or incorrect information being provided, we regret that the fee is not returnable.

The following are the oldest registers now held in the two churches. Any older registers are in the Norfolk Record Office.

NB. Because the church was closed after a fire, St Mary's weddings from 18th July, 1989 to 14th September 1990 took place at All Saints'.
